Police officer charged after crash between cruiser and another vehicle in Winnipeg
Crash sent 3 to hospital — 2 officers and a civilian
A two-vehicle crash involving a Winnipeg police cruiser — which also hit a building — has led to charges against the officer who was driving.
Const. Landan Ramage is charged with failing to use a siren and failing to drive with due regard to safety, the Independent Investigation Unit said in a news release on Wednesday, following an investigation that started shortly after the crash.
A civilian vehicle and the police SUV that Ramage was driving crashed at the intersection of Notre Dame Avenue and Donald Street around 6 p.m. on April 16.
The cruiser then hit a building at the corner.
The driver of the private vehicle suffered a fractured rib and was sent to hospital, the police watchdog said in its news release.
Two police officers were also sent to hospital for examination and later released.
As the matter is now before the courts, the Independent Investigation Unit will not comment further, it said in the news release.
The IIU investigates all serious incidents involving police officers in Manitoba.
