Police investigate city's 37th homicide in Winnipeg's West End
Nearby elementary school takes precautions Thursday morning after man found critically injured
Winnipeg police are investigating the city's latest homicide after a man was found critically injured outside a home in the city's West End Thursday morning.
Police were called to the 1½-storey house on St. Matthews Avenue, just off Arlington Street, shortly before 10 a.m. Thursday.
Officers found an injured man outside the home and he was taken to hospital in critical condition, where he was pronounced dead.
Greenway elementary school, on Burnell Street just west of the home, was placed under a hold-and-secure protocol — meaning no one could enter or leave the building while classes continued as usual — for part of the morning.
The homicide unit is investigating the death.
It's Winnipeg's 37th homicide this year.
Anyone with information that might help the investigation is asked to call 204-986-6508 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
