Pallister calls for more protection for whistleblowers
Manitoba Opposition Leader Brian Pallister said the government should act immediately to provide more protection for whistleblowers.
Pallister pointed to an external review, released this week, of the province's whistleblower legislation.
The report said one public-sector worker said she reported alleged wrongdoing, but then she and her colleagues suffered reprisals from a supervisor.
The report said the provincial ombudsman should be given new powers to investigate complaints about reprisals in the civil service.
The government has already said it has accepted the report and welcomes the recommendations.
Pallister said he's not convinced the government will follow through, and he wonders why the report was only made public this week when it was completed for the government in April.
