Winnipeg police are investigating a double homicide after two men died in hospital Saturday, victims of severe injuries to their upper bodies.
Firefighters, paramedics and police were called to a residence in the 700 block of Maryland Street in the city's west end after receiving reports of an injured man and the sound of a fire alarm, police said.
Two men were found at the home, both with wounds to their upper bodies. They were taken to hospital, but pronounced dead there.
A small fire at the scene died out by itself. Neither of the men was injured in the fire.
The men have been identified, but their names are not being released.
The deaths are the city's fifth and sixth homicides this year.
