A youth has been charged with second-degree murder after the fatal stabbing of a man in Long Plain First Nation.

A vehicle was stopped at a home to drop off a passenger on Feb. 24 when a 14-year-old boy left the home and confronted the 26-year-old man inside the vehicle about some stolen property, RCMP said in a news release on Monday.

Mounties said the youth allegedly entered the vehicle and stabbed the man.

The vehicle then left the home and pulled up to the Manitoba First Nations Police Service detachment in the community,  located about 100 kilometres west of Winnipeg, around 6:45 p.m.

Police provided emergency medical attention until paramedics arrived at the detachment, RCMP said.

The man was rushed to hospital and later died from his injuries, the release said. The man was not identified in the release, and RCMP didn't specify whether family notifications have been made.

RCMP and police are investigating his death as a homicide.

The 14-year-old was arrested by MFNPS last week and is being held in custody, RCMP said.
