Jeff Browaty makes bid to represent Conservatives in Kildonan-St. Paul
North Kildonan Coun. Jeff Browaty wants to represent the federal Conservatives in the riding Joy Smith will vacate in the coming federal election.
Browaty who was re-elected in last fall's municipal election, said in a news release he will stand for the party's nomination in Kildonan-St. Paul at a nomination meeting in the beginning of May.
Smith, who has represented the constituency since 2004, has said she will not run again.
"I am excited to have the opportunity to pursue the federal Conservative nomination in Kildonan-St. Paul," Browaty said. "Over the coming days and weeks I look forward to meeting with existing party members and signing up new ones."
Browaty, who was elected to city council in 2006, said he is facing down a membership sales deadline of next Thursday, April 9 and expects to be pushing sales during council's spring break this week and over the Easter weekend.
"I believe the Harper government has done an excellent job as stewards of the economy," he said. "Their tax relief for families, seniors and all Canadians is something I wholeheartedly support."
The deadline for candidates to enter the nomination race for Kildonan-St. Paul is this Thursday, April 2.
