Man injured while attempting to evade arrest, IIU investigating
The police watchdog is looking into the incident that led to a broken ankle
A male attempting to evade arrest by the Winnipeg Police Service suffered a fractured ankle on Friday, and the Independent Investigation Unit (IIU) is now investigating.
The male, wanted on an outstanding warrant for his arrest, was injured while jumping from a second-storey window of a residence on Young Street at approximately 6:30 p.m. on July 23, the Winnipeg Police Service said in a report filed with the IIU the following day.
The male was taken into custody and transported to hospital where the injury was diagnosed.
The police watchdog has to investigate the matter because the injury is considered serious.
