Here's a look at what is open and closed around the city as Winnipeggers plan for the closing days of 2024.
City services and transit
All City of Winnipeg civic offices will be closed on New Year's Day.
- There will be no garbage and recycling collection on New Year's Day. If your collection day normally falls on or after that date it will be picked up a day later. For example, if your collection day normally falls on Wednesday, put your carts out on Thursday. You can find your collection day here.
- The Brady Road landfill and 4R depot will be closed on New Year's Day, as well as the Pacific and Panet Road 4R depots.
- All Winnipeg Public Libraries will be closed New Year's Day.
- All city leisure centres and pools are also closed New Year's Day. They will close at 4 p.m. on New Year's Eve.
- All city arenas will reopen on Jan. 2, unless otherwise indicated. Ab McDonald Arena will be open over the winter break. Casual ice rental hours can be found on the city's website.
- All pools will be closed on New Year's Day, and at 4 p.m. on New Year's Eve.
- Winnipeg Transit will operate on a Sunday schedule on New Year's Day.
- Transit will be free after 7 p.m. on New Year's Eve. Hours will be extended on select routes, with the last bus to leave downtown around 1:30 a.m. Riders can consult Navigo for more details
Malls and shopping
All major shopping malls will be closed New Year's Day except Outlet Collection Winnipeg, which will be open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on New Year's Day. It will open at 10 a.m. and close at 5 p.m. on New Year's Eve.
- CF Polo Park shopping centre will be open from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on New Year's Eve.
- St. Vital Centre will be open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on New Year's Eve.
- Kildonan Place will open at 10 a.m. and close at 4 p.m on New Year's Eve.
- Garden City shopping centre will be open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on New Year's Eve.
- Grant Park Shopping Centre is open 10 p.m. to 4 p.m. New Year's Eve.
- Portage Place is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on New Year's Eve.
- Most major grocery stores will be open but will close early on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day, with several closing at 6 p.m. on both days. Shoppers should call ahead for exact hours at their local neighbourhood store.

- The Canadian Museum for Human Rights is closed New Year's Day. It will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on New Year's Eve.
- The Manitoba Museum is open daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.
- The Manitoba Children's Museum is open 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.
- The Winnipeg Art Gallery-Qaumajuq is open New Year's Day from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- The Royal Aviation Museum of Western Canada will be open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on New Year's Eve and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on New Year's Day.
- FortWhyte Alive will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on New Year's Eve and and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. New Year's Day. The north and south trail gates will be locked at 12:30 pm on New Year's Eve.
Liquor stores
- All Liquor Marts will close at 7 p.m. on New Year's Eve, and remain closed on New Year's Day.
- Shoppers should call private beer vendors and wine stores directly for holiday operating hours.
