Charges laid after crash left Winnipeg officers worried about fentanyl exposure
Officers self-administered naloxone after experiencing symptoms of opioid exposure
A 25-year-old man has been charged after three Winnipeg police officers were possibly exposed to fentanyl.
Police are still waiting for test results to determine whether the substance was the potentially deadly opioid, but said the officers self-administered the lifesaving antidote naloxone as a precaution after feeling light-headed.
The man has been charged with possession of a scheduled substance, failure to comply with a probation order, driving with an invalid licence and failing to remain at the scene of an accident.
The incident happened Monday afternoon when the officers were called to a car crash in the East Kildonan neighbourhood.

While investigating the scene, the officers began to experience exposure symptoms.
There was other information as well that led them to believe them it was an opioid exposure, Const. Rob Carver said earlier this week, but he didn't elaborate on what the information was.
The naloxone was effective in stabilizing the officers before they were taken to hospital, he said.
The results of tests on the substance are expected in the next two weeks.
