Pedestrian dies in hit-and-run with stolen van in Winnipeg's William Whyte neighbourhood: Police

A 49-year-old man has died after a weekend hit and run in the William Whyte neighbourhood, Winnipeg police said Tuesday.
Officers were called shortly after 7 a.m. Saturday, after a pedestrian was hit by a vehicle in the area of Redwood Avenue, between Charles and Salter streets, police said in a news release Tuesday.
Kurt Fabian Paupanekis, of Winnipeg, was taken to hospital in stable condition but later died of his injuries.
A stolen rental moving van was involved in the incident, police said.
Officers found the van at the scene but the driver and occupants had fled before emergency services got there, the release said.
