Confusion swirls around Downtown BIZ Winnipeg mayoral debate
A Winnipeg mayoral hopeful said a downtown business association has reversed course and agreed to let all Winnipeg mayoral hopefuls attend a debate scheduled for September. But the BIZ said no such changes have been made.
Last week, the Downtown BIZ caught heat for planning a mayoral forum and inviting only five candidates.
After candidates spoke out calling the move unfair and undemocratic, the candidate David Sanders said he got confirmation from the association saying it opted to change the policy and invite all of the candidates.
The BIZ itself says other candidates will simply be allowed to submit written answers to the questions.
There are currently nine people running to be the next mayor of Winnipeg.
The Downtown BIZ mayoral forum will be held on Sept. 10.
Winnipeggers go to the polls on Oct. 22.
