At CBC Manitoba, our job is to tell stories that reflect our province's many people and places. Communities in Focus is a community news bureau project that aims to hear Manitobans' stories and share them with the rest of the province.

This fall, Lac du Bonnet hosted Communities in Focus. We spent a week meeting with leaders and innovators, and learning about life in the region.

Now, we're sharing the stories of Lac du Bonnet.

A community garden in Lac du Bonnet produced around 6,000 kilograms of fresh fruit and vegetables this year, with close to 1,000 kilograms going directly to the southeastern Manitoba community's food bank.

Lac du Bonnet's political leaders say they've joined forces to help improve their southeastern Manitoba community. CBC's Cory Funk speaks with them both to hear about the developments there.
A field at the edge of Lac du Bonnet has sat vacant for 20 years as politicians waffled on whether to build a personal care home there. Now it's finally going to get built. We'll hear from the man fought to make it happen. .

That's the motto of a community outreach worker in Lac Du Bonnet, who serves the community out of Miss Lucci's Resource Centre... which doubles as a thrift store. Furniture store employee Christine Pahl and outreach worker Torrie Ferens speak with CBC's Chloe Friesen.

Donna Besel is an author whose stories reflect her upbringing in Whiteshell Provincial Park and small-town life in Lac Du Bonnet. She tells guest host Brittany Greenslade about the challenges older women face as writers, and about the launch of Prairie Fire magazine's Fall Issue, titled "50 Over 50, Honouring Women Writers in Canada."

How a brand new course at Sagkeeng First Nation prepares young people from the community for a career in the mining industry.
It's graduation day for students living on Sagkeeng First Nation who have just completed a job readiness program. Christina Dorie is one of this year's graduates. She shared what the achievement means to her with guest host Chloe Friesen.
