Police find thousands of child porn images on Winnipeg man's computers
59-year-old charged with possessing, distributing 'horrendous' child porn
Police arrested a Winnipeg man after finding what they described as "hundreds of videos and thousands of images" of child pornography on his computers.
The Winnipeg Police Service's internet child exploitation unit launched an investigation after learning about "illicit images" online that were uploaded from a Winnipeg-based IP address.
Police executed a search warrant at a home on Oct. 26 and seized several computers and electronic devices containing "a very large amount" of child pornography, Const. Rob Carver said.
"It presents investigators with a challenge because they need to sift through all that data, and it is horrendous data to have to go through," Carver said. "We don't exactly have people beating down the door to be members of this unit."
Police arrested 59-year-old Gerald Lemer. He was charged with two counts of distributing and one count of possessing child porn. He remains in police custody.
