Car driver dies in crash with stolen SUV
A 47-year-old man died Friday after the car he was in was hit by a speeding SUV, which Winnipeg police say was stolen.
The larger vehicle, a Hummer, collided with the man's smaller car around 3 p.m. Friday at the intersection of Alfred Avenue and Andrews Street.
The injured man was rushed to hospital in critical condition. Police later reported that Zdzislaw Andrzejczak, of Winnipeg, died.
Officers added on Saturday that they were still looking for the Hummer's occupants, who fled the scene immediately after the crash.
Witnesses told CBC News that one of the people in the Hummer did not look old enough to have a driver's licence.
"The one I saw was really young," Laura Backstrom, who heard the crash and called 911, told CBC News on Friday. "And he looked scared."
