2 Manitobans, 3 Jets prospects named to Canadian junior camp

Two Manitobans and three Winnipeg Jets prospects have been named to Canada's national junior hockey team selection camp.

Madison Bowey of Winnipeg, and Travis Sanheim of Elkhorn made the 29-man roster, which was released Monday morning.

They will be joined by Jets prospects Eric Comrie, Josh Morrissey, and Nic Petan. The Jets are the only NHL team with three representatives on Hockey Canada’s selection camp roster.

Bowey, a defenceman who was a second round draft pick by the Washington Capitals in the 2013 NHL draft, currently plays for the Kelowna Rockets of the Western Hockey League.

Sanheim, another defenceman, was drafted in the first round of the 2014 draft by the Philadelphia Flyers, and currently plays for the Calgary Hitmen.

Comrie, a goaltender for the Tri-City Americans of the WHL, is from Edmonton. Morrissey, a defenceman and captain of his junior club, the WHL’s Prince Albert Raiders, is from Calgary.

Petan, from Delta, B.C., is a centreman and captain of the WHL's Portland Winterhawks.

Morrissey and Petan are returning members of Canada’s World Junior team, having competed last season in Malmo, Sweden.

The selection camp begins in Toronto on Dec. 11. The roster will be cut down to 22 players before the World Junior Championships start on Dec. 26.

The championship tournament games will be played in Toronto and Montreal.
