Western University reacts with shock after female pedestrian struck and killed near its campus
Police in London, Ont., say the collision happened at 1:15 p.m. ET Monday
Western University officials said their community is shocked and saddened by the tragic death of a female pedestrian near a student apartment building on Western Road Monday afternoon.
"We offer our deepest condolences to the family and friends of those who are affected. We are never prepared for this kind of loss," the university's president Alan Shepard said in a social media post.

Emergency crews were called to 974 Western Rd., east of Platt's Lane at about 1:15 p.m. ET after the woman was struck by a vehicle.
London Police said the age and identity of the victim have not been released. Police say the driver involved remained on the scene.
Shepard said the university will be offering counselling services to its students and employees who are in need of support following the incident.
The public is being asked to avoid the area as the traffic management unit continues to investigate.
