An early-morning fire in a vacant home in the city's northeast has been deemed suspicious and has been assigned to the London police's Street Crime Unit.

The London Fire Department responded to a call about a fire at 1310 Adelaide St. North just after 5 a.m. on Tuesday.

The fire started in an old house at the southeast corner of Adelaide Street and Windermere Road, just across the road from the Waltzing Weasel restaurant. The eatery was not affected.

Platoon Chief Gary Mosburger said at approximately 7 a.m. that crews had the fire under control but were still working to get the "deep seeded hotspots" within the building.

No injuries have been reported.

Investigators have not yet determined the cause of the fire. The Office of the Fire Marshal has been contacted to assist.

Adelaide Street was closed between Glenora Drive and Kipps Lane. Windermere Road was also closed to the west of Tetherwood Blvd.

Mosburger says street closures were necessary as crews used fire hydrants on both ends of Adelaide Street.
