The province hopes to have a regional bus service connecting London to Strathroy and Sarnia up and running by the spring.

Monte McNaughton, the Conservative MPP for Lambton-Kent-Middlesex, announced a $1.5-million investment through the Ontario's Community Transportation Grant while in Strathroy Thursday.

He said it's been 30 years since there was regular bus service on the route, and the options for people looking to get around keep shrinking.

"VIA Rail, for example, has reduced some of their trains, I know from Sarnia to London for example. Greyhound has depleted their services," he said.

"It really speaks to the need that southwestern Ontario, in particular rural communities, need when it comes to transportation."

McNaughton says buses will have up to 24 fully accessible seats, and anticipates the service will run two round trips every week day.

It'll also have stops in Strathroy and Mount Brydges.
