Speed enforcement cameras coming to 8 Waterloo region schools in 90 days

Speed cameras will be installed around eight schools in Waterloo region in approximately 90 days' time, according to a news release issued by the region.

Automated speed enforcement cameras will be installed around eight schools in Waterloo region in approximately 90 days' time, according to a news release issued by the region.

It's part of an effort to improve safety in school zones, regional Chair Karen Redman said in the release.

The systems — which measure the speed of approaching vehicles, photograph those that are exceeding the posted limit and send tickets to the addresses associated with their vehicle registration — will be installed near the following schools:

  • Cedar Creek Public School on Hilltop Drive in North Dumfries.
  • Foundation Christian School on Katherine Street in Woolwich.
  • Franklin Avenue Public School in Kitchener.
  • Keatsway Public School in Waterloo.
  • Laurentian Public School on Westmount Road in Kitchener.
  • New Dundee Public School on Bridge Street in New Dundee.
  • St. Clements Public School on Lobsinger Line in St. Clements.
  • St. Gabriel Catholic Elementary on Guelph Avenue in Cambridge.

"Coming soon" signs are being installed this week to notify motorists of the impending arrival of the cameras, the region said.
