Should rural waste transfer stations be closed?

Region council is trying to keep a total property tax increase to no more than 1.9 per cent in the 2014 regional budget.
One of the proposals to cut costs is to close four rural waste transfer stations. Regional staff say in the budget report that the townships now receive garbage collection service like the cities do, and that people no longer need to drive to the transfer stations to drop off their waste. Closing those stations would save the region $308,250.
At 7:10 on The Morning Edition, we'll speak to Woolwich Mayor Todd Cowan about the transfers.
What do you think of the proposal?
