Intersection closes Wednesday as Cambridge readies to demolish Preston Springs Hotel
Intersection of Fountain Street and King Street in Cambridge closed to traffic
Demolition on the historic Preston Springs Hotel on Fountain Street in Cambridge is scheduled to begin Wednesday afternoon.
A spokesperson for the City of Cambridge told CBC K-W demolition crews were waiting for equipment to arrive at the site.
The city has closed the intersection of Fountain Street at King in Preston in front of the former hotel, as a safety measure.
The Architectural Conservancy of Ontario (ACO) of Cambridge and North Dumfries tried to obtain an injunction to stop the process, but local vice president Karen Scott Booth said they ran out of time as that process would take weeks.
"We have had experts, architects and engineers contacting the city, challenging the emergency order. We don't agree with the [rationale for the] emergency order," said Scott Booth.
"They do not need to be demolishing this building because there was a list of things that could be remedied with construction and safety measures."
