Kitchener neurologist faces hearing over sexual abuse accusations
College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario to hear accusations against Jeffrey Scott Sloka in 2019
A Kitchener neurologist is facing accusations of sexual abuse involving multiple patients.
Jeffrey Scott Sloka, whose primary practice is at Grand River Hospital, is named in a notice of hearing from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.
The document details accusations of abuse from three patients who had appointments with Sloka between 2010 and 2017.
According to the college, Sloka is accused of touching a patient's breasts inappropriately and/or sexually during an examination, making inappropriate and/or sexual remarks to a patient and asking patients to undress completely or providing inadequate draping for examinations.
Sloka was put under restrictions in September 2017 as a result of the accusations, including not being alone with any patients during any professional encounters.
The college also required signs to be posted in waiting rooms, exam rooms and consulting rooms stating Sloka was not to be alone with patients.
He is scheduled for a hearing with the college in May, 2019.
Officials with the college said Sloka's hearings were originally scheduled for fall 2018, but that date was delayed after the third set of allegations came to light.
Grand River Hospital officials released a statement on Wednesday saying, "We respect the process of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, and will act accordingly following decisions made with respect to their members that may impact hospital care."
Officials with Grand River Hospital said, to their knowledge Sloka was still practising at the hospital under the restrictions.
The statement also says, "The Chief of Staff's office is responsible for credentialing physicians to practice at Grand River Hospital and St. Mary's General Hospital. The Chief of Staff reviews any professional or regulatory findings for physicians, and determines how their credentials may be impacted."
CBC requested comment from Sloka's office, but they declined.
