Guelph asks drivers to move cars off city streets by noon for plowing
Guelph's 660 km of sidewalks and paths usually plowed last, says city
The City of Guelph is asking drivers to move parked cars off city streets so staff can plow residential streets Wednesday afternoon.
The plows are expected to start their work at noon and work will continue until all roads in the city are adequately cleared.
In a news release, Terry Dooling, manager of public works operations, said the city tries to get all streets cleared within 24 hours of a storm passing. High-use roads and bike lanes are given first priority, with secondary streets cleared after that. Then, residential streets are plowed.
Sidewalks and multi-use paths are usually done last, the city said.
"Guelph's 660 km of sidewalks and multi-use paths take three days to clear. Stretched end-to-end, they're the same distance between Guelph and Montreal. We appreciate your patience as we work to get them cleared," wrote the city.
Residents can also watch snow clearing as it happens, through the City of Guelph's Plow Tracker map.
