2 women dead in early-morning house fire in Guelph

The Ontario Fire Marshal's office along with Guelph Fire Department are investigating a fatal fire Monday in the area of Edinburgh Road South and Wilsonview Avenue.

Two other occupants of the home escaped the fire with minor injuries

Two women have died after an early-morning residential fire in Guelph on Monday. 

Police received a call around 12:40 a.m. ET about the fire in the area of Edinburgh Road South and Wilsonview Avenue. 

"Emergency responders attended quickly and found the house fully engulfed," said Scott Tracey, media relations co-ordinator with Guelph police.

"Guelph Fire Department was able to extinguish the fire," Tracey said, adding two adult residents died from their injuries.

Police confirmed there two other occupants of the house were able to escape and call 911.

They were treated in hospital for minor injuries and smoke inhalation. 

"From a police perspective, there's nothing I've seen at this time that is being treated as suspicious, but it is obviously very early on in the investigation," Tracey added. 

The Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal is investigating in conjunction with the Guelph Fire Department.
