Rock overcomes rain at Supercrawl Saturday
Strumbellas cap off 2nd day of Supercrawl 2016
Even in the face of a forecast that included the possibility of torrential rains, lightning and "an isolated tornado," downtown Hamilton once again pulsed with a bevy of activity Saturday as Supercrawl 2016 rolled on.
The skies did open up periodically throughout the day, sending festival-goers scrambling for the comfort of dry spaces, or at the very least an umbrella or makeshift rain poncho to hide under.
But by the time Saturday headliners The Strumbellas took the stage, the rain had largely abated, and the crowd rivaled the one that took in The Trews the night before.
Long a highlight of the festival, Circus Orange's fiery aerial arts show once again left mouths hanging wide open at the intersection of James Street North and York Boulevard.
This year, the show featured performers doing their best Spider-Man impressions on the wall of the parking garage nearest to the intersection, and grappling up and down, seemingly with ease.
Another highlight came on the Mohawk College stage, as The Medicine Hat performed with members of the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra.
The set featured orchestral reimaginings of the band's songs, as well as new takes on classical pieces, like songs plucked from the Romeo and Juliet ballet.
On the fashion stage, Blackbird Studios presented its Spring/Summer 2017 collection dubbed "Suffragette City," which is a celebration of the city's female leaders and role models.
Supercrawl 2016 concludes Sunday, with performances from the likes of Matt Andersen and Choir! Choir! Choir!
