36-year-old Tito Kelly is Hamilton's 8th homicide victim this year
Another person turned up at local hospital with gunshot wound, police say
The Hamilton man who police say died of a gunshot wound following a shooting in the city Tuesday night was 36-year-old Tito Kelly.
He is the city's eighth homicide victim this year.
Shortly before 11 p.m. Hamilton police responded to reports of multiple gunshots in the area of Herkimer Street and Caroline Street South.
Detective Sergeant Sara Beck spoke to reporters outside Hamilton police's central station on Wednesday afternoon. She said police found Kelly in an alleyway near where the shooting occurred, that he lived in the area, and died in hospital.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time," she said.
Beck asked residents and motorists in the area to check any camera footage between 10:40 and 11 p.m. for images of a royal blue four-door sedan, which police say quickly drove westbound on Markland Street around the time of the shooting. They describe the vehicle in question as "similar to a Honda Civic or Mazda 3 with dark tint."
Beck said that shortly after shooting, a man who had been shot, showed up in a local hospital. She said he's in stable condition in the hospital, but would not share any other information about him.
"We do believe that they are connected. To what level and what degree and the circumstances of which, we are still investigating."
Beck noted forensic officers are continuing to work the crime scene. She said police found a loaded handgun in the area and multiple bullet casings. Beck said that she believes the gun is connected to crime but is not sure to what extent or to whom it belongs.
She said police are also not sure how many people were involved in the shooting incident but that there were "at least two."
Hamilton police are encouraging anyone with information they believe could assist with the investigation into this crime to contact Det. Robert Di Ianni at 905-546-3836.
