One year later, Monica Chisar is still missing.

The 29-year-old woman with rust-coloured hair was last seen in Hamilton, just after midnight on July 11, 2018.

On the anniversary of her disappearance — and worried about foul play — Hamilton police are calling out for help to anyone who might know what happened.

Chisar was last seen around Barton Street East and Parkdale Avenue North, where her friend was dropping her off at the Beer Store.

She was going to stay with a friend in the area, but police do not know who or in which building.

Chisar was known to disappear for a little while, then pop up somewhere else, Det. Sgt. Dave Oleniuk told reporters in March. But she usually documented it on Instagram — and her account had been dormant for months.

Police said Chisar had a wide range of friends and acquaintances, and Oleniuk described her as having a somewhat bohemian, "unconventional lifestyle."

"She would be fairly carefree," he said to media in March.  "She would go on extended trips and stay with friends."

In the past, he said, she would disappear for a while. But "she'd call from other places, other countries, and touch base with family," he said.

Reddish-brown hair, 5'7 feet tall

Chisar is described as having green eyes and shoulder-length reddish-brown hair, standing 5'7 feet tall and 170 pounds.

She has a a small star tattoo on the left side of her neck, police said, a crown on her left wrist and tattoos that say "Ethan" and "I love my daddy FC" on her upper back.

She was reported missing on September 28.

Chisar is from Toronto, but has lived in several places. She was also spending time in Kitchener.

She had one son from whom she was estranged, and contact on and off with relatives.

Police suspect foul play and the Major Crime Unit has taken over the investigation. It's also possible Chisar disappeared for her own reasons, police said.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Detective Sergeant Dave Oleniuk at 905-546-3829.
