Security video shows a semi tractor-trailer slamming into a parked truck, and dragging it to the end of the road.

When Todd Birss woke up Friday morning, his truck was not where he parked it outside his house in southeast Calgary.

"Then my one boy says, 'It's at the end of the street,'" Birss said.

He said his truck was sitting, badly banged up, near the yield sign at the end of his cul-de-sac in Cranston.

He said his family checked the security camera installed at the front of their house, and "couldn't believe what we saw."

Around 2:30 a.m., the video shows a large semi tractor-trailer coming down the street, hitting his truck, then leaving the cul-de-sac.

"[They] basically swallowed up my truck and dragged it all the way down to the end of the street," said Birss, who shared the video with CBC News.

Birss hopes that he'll be able to get an answer about who hit his truck, as he's concerned it will need to be written off after being assessed by claims adjusters.

"I'm not prepared to press charges or anything on this person who did this hit and run. I would just like him to be able to cover the balance [of what's not covered by insurance] so I'm not out of pocket anything," he said.

Birss is also wondering why the large vehicle was going down his street in the first place. He believes the driver might have been lost.

"I mean, I feel his pain for being lost and trying to find his way. But you know when you take out a vehicle you know you've got to do the right thing," he said.

Birss said he has contacted police, and he is collecting footage from other people in the community in the hopes that he can track down the driver.
