Reuben and the Dark delve deep to bring back beauty

Hear Reuben and the Dark play a sold-out live show at the Lantern Church during the Calgary Folk Music Festival's 2017 Block Heater. Songwriter Reuben Bullock doesn't shy away from dark subjects, but always returns with something beautiful.

Calgary native returns to the site of some of his first self-produced shows with songs that offer solace

This week on the Key of A is an exclusive live CBC recording, perfect for this difficult week:  Reuben and the Dark live at the  Lantern Church in Calgary.

It's a homecoming for  Reuben Bullock — front man of the group. The Lantern is where he presented some of his first solo shows.

Since then, he's signed with  Arts & Crafts, one of Canada's top independent record labels.

Now, instead of putting on his own shows, Reuben Bullock is headlining them.

When Reuben and the Dark was announced as headliner for the  2017 Block Heater Festival, tickets sold out so fast, they had to put on a second show — and that one sold out too.

We were there to record the music to share with you on the  Key of A. You'll hear new songs from their upcoming album, recent singles and old favourites from Reuben Bullock's solo days.

A beautiful live show for you, from opening night of  Calgary Folk Festival's Block Heater 2017.

In the meantime, check out this video performance of his recent single, Heart in Two

Listen to the Key of A Saturday 5-6 p.m. on CBC Radio 1.
