Parks Canada identified 400 hectares for preventive measure
Fire specialists have started burning a prescribed area in Waterton Lakes National Park as part of their efforts to prevent wildfires in the area.
The team burned three hectares in the Red Rock 'prescribed fire area' on Thursday.
Weather permitting, the team will try to burn more of the targeted 400 hectares later Thursday or on Friday.
The fire team shot some impressive pictures from the helicopter.
The blackened terrain will eventually be transformed again into lush vegetation.
