Homestretch Brunch Club: The Nash offers hangover breakfast pizza, banana bread french toast
The best of breakfast and lunch in one delicious meal
This summer the Homestretch is doing brunch. On alternating Thursdays throughout July and August, Calgary bloggers Jen Li and Bonnie Huang will join Doug Dirks with a report on Cowtown's brunch scene.
Week 8: The Nash Restaurant and Off Cut Bar
925 11th Street S.E.
There's brunch, and then there's brunch at The Nash.
The historic Inglewood-hotel-turned-restaurant has taken early breakfast to a whole new level.
Chef Michael Noble is behind The Nash's inventive menu, which adds a dash of urban grit into the mix.
Homestretch brunch columnist Jen Li said The Nash has become one of her favourite brunch spots in the city, despite its above average price.
Li enjoyed The Nash's classic bacon and eggs. The dish is served with two eggs your way, toast and jam, zucchini olive tomato caponata, rosti potato and a thick slice of the bacon Li's ever had. She says the only drawback was the cherry jam served with her toast. It was quite runny and more syrupy than fruity.
Li brunched with three companions at The Nash and they all ordered amazing dishes.
First there was the hangover breakfast "pizza." It comes garnished with huevos rancheros toppings, a generous layer of sour cream, two sunnyside eggs and pico de gallo.
Next, the daily feature was banana bread french toast topped with fresh blackberries and a scoop of hazelnut ice cream. Li says the banana bread was surprisingly light in texture and had just the right amount of sweetness.
Finally, for the very hungry bruncher, The Nash's hickory smoked beef brisket poutine hash comes topped with fresh cheese curds, scallions and mushrooms.
For coffee snobs, no need to worry, The Nash serves Phil and Sebastian.
