HIV-positive man charged with sexual assault
Paul Thomson, 32, is in custody and charged with 11 counts of aggravated sexual assault. He is also charged with one count of theft, on allegations he stole a bank card.
The woman who Thomson is accused of assaulting told police she wasn't informed of his medical condition, Red Deer RCMP said Friday in a release.
"In the Criminal Code of Canada, the definition of aggravated sexual assault includes endangerment of life, and that exposure to HIV may endanger life," police said.
Thomson was set to appear in Red Deer provincial court on Friday.
On July 15, Calgary police asked for the public's help to find Thomson, who they described as a missing man of "diminished capacity."
RCMP in Red Deer began their investigation into the sexual assault allegations on July 29.
