Chris Turner, a local writer who helped found a civic engagement group in Calgary, officially announced his Green Party nomination for the Calgary Centre byelection Thursday.
Turner says as part of his election platform, he'll unveil a federal Green Party commitment to pursue a national transit strategy.
In 2009, Turner co-founded CivicCamp — a civic engagement organization in the city.
Local hip hop artist Transit performed a few songs for the crowd.
Joan Crockatt, a former managing editor of the Calgary Herald, is the Conservative Party's candidate for the upcoming byelection.
