About the Instructor:

Melvi Alvarado
Melvi Alvarado will be teaching a Salvadorian folk dance form for Stories in Motion's latest session on Jan. 18, 2025 at the Central Library (CBC)

Born and raised in El Salvador, Melvi Alvarado began dancing at five and mastered Latin dance styles like Merengue, Samba, Bachata, and Afro-Latin Folklore by age eight. In 2008, he joined Adhesivo Dance Company, performing across El Salvador in festivals and competitions. After moving to Canada in 2010, Melvi founded Dance Fusion Calgary to celebrate community and culture through dance.

As the co-founder of Colores del Alma, a Latinx Queer community group, and founder of The Calgary Salvadorian Folklore Association, Melvi continues to preserve and promote Salvadorian culture while creating inclusive spaces for connection and joy through dance.
