Discover the magic of tap dance with M'Kayla, a talented young choreographer and performer who brings rhythm and music to life through every step. This workshop dives into the unity that rhythm and movement can create, exploring how music exists in all of us—from the beat of our hearts to the patterns of our breath.
M'Kayla's extensive background in competitive and professional dance, including international performances and a focus on tap, ensures an enriching and inspiring experience. Whether you're a seasoned dancer or a curious beginner, this session offers a unique opportunity to connect to music, rhythm, and yourself in a fresh and expressive way.
About the Instructor:
M'Kayla's love for dance began at age three, and her journey has taken her from competitive training in diverse genres to performing on international stages in Germany, New York City, and beyond. A 2019 member of Team Canada's National Tap team, M'Kayla has earned numerous awards and titles, including Miss Junior Candance.
Currently pursuing a double Bachelor of Arts in Dance and Economics at the University of Calgary, M'Kayla is also in her second year of Decidedly Jazz's Professional Training Program. Her work as a performer and choreographer is deeply personal, often incorporating her experiences as a first-generation Canadian of Surinamese descent.
M'Kayla is the director of Fancy Footwork Dance Projects and teaches at Elite Dance Academy and Decidedly Jazz Danceworks, where she inspires dancers of all ages to explore the connection between rhythm, music, and movement.
