Calgary police identify victim in East Village homicide
Badly injured man found on sidewalk early Tuesday morning later died
Police have released the identity of a man found in medical distress in southeast Calgary earlier this week who later died. The death is now considered a homicide.
Officers were called at about 1:20 a.m. on Tuesday to the 400 block of Sixth Avenue S.E., where a man was found by passersby in medical distress on the sidewalk, police said in a release.
Despite lifesaving efforts from witnesses and first responders, the man was taken to hospital, where he died from his injuries.
Following an autopsy by the office of the chief medical examiner, the victim was identified as David Kendall Williams, 27.
The death has been ruled a homicide — Calgary's 23rd homicide this year and the second in the span of three days — but police are not releasing the cause of death.
A security camera image of the victim and a person of interest in the homicide was released Wednesday.
The victim is seen in the closed-circuit television image wearing black, carrying a black backpack and wearing a black face mask.
The person of interest, seen standing next to the victim, was wearing a red bandana as a face mask, a black ball cap, black puffy jacket and a cross hanging on a long necklace.
