Calgary police have released a security camera image of the victim and a person of interest in an assault that claimed a man's life in the East Village earlier this week.
Officers were called at about 1:20 a.m. on Tuesday to the 400 block of Sixth Avenue S.E., where a man was found by passersby in medical distress on the sidewalk, police said in a release.
Despite lifesaving efforts from witnesses and first responders, the man was taken to hospital, where he died from his injuries.
The victim is seen in the closed-circuit television image wearing black, carrying a black backpack and wearing a black face mask.

The person of interest, seen standing next to the victim, was wearing a red bandana as a face mask, a black ball cap, black puffy jacket and a cross hanging on a long necklace.
The victim remains unidentified pending an autopsy, which is scheduled for Thursday.
It's not known what motivated the assault.
If the fatality is determined to be a homicide, it will be Calgary's 23rd homicide this year and the second in three days.
