Celebrate The 12 Days of Christmas with the Calgary Eyeopener
Sing your own original lyric by sending a voice memo or leaving a voicemail
Leading up to the holidays, CBC Radio's the Calgary Eyeopener is on a special quest to bring holiday cheer to your ears. It's why the CBC Radio elves have been busy in their workshop rewriting a classic festive carol, The 12 Days of Christmas.
Except this version is all about Calgary, and the elves are relying on listeners to help.
Every weekday, between 6 and 8:30 a.m., the Calgary Eyeopener will choose a winner for the next line in our new and original song, The 12 Days of Calgary Christmas.
All you have to do is send a voice memo to eyeopener@cbc.ca or leave a voicemail at 403-521-6209, and sing your original lyric (or the whole song so far, if you're feeling brave).
Here are the lyrics so far:
On the 11th day of Christmas my true love gave to me…
- 11 Lorens leaping
- 10 pancake breakfasts
- Nine stalls on Deerfoot,
- Eighty-eight Olympics,
- Seven pipes a-leaking,
- Six chinook arches,
- Five hailstorm claims!
- Four spicy caesars,
- Three Flames jerseys,
- Tegan and Sara,
- And a flood in 2013.
On Thursday, Dec. 19, listeners are asked to replace "12 drummers drumming" with something specific to Calgary.
If your lyric is chosen as the winner for one of the 12 days, you'll be entered for a chance to win a CBC prize pack, including earmuffs, a pillow case and other impossible-to-find CBC goodies!
The contest runs until Dec. 19.
Good luck, Calgary!
