Local businessman Blair Houston will be the Progressive Conservative candidate in the provincial byelection in Calgary-Foothills.

The PC party made the announcement on Tuesday.

The riding was former premier Jim Prentice's before he resigned the seat in May right after the NDP won the Alberta election.

Houston will be up against Bob Hawksworth for the NDP, Mark Taylor for the Alberta Party, Ali Bin Zahid for the Liberals and Janet Keeping for the Green Party of Alberta.

Late Tuesday night the Wildrose Party nominated Prasad Panda as its candidate.

The vote to replace Jim Prentice is on Sept. 3.
