After 25 years in operation, the Fish House in Stanley Park is officially closing its doors in October.

The decision comes after the owner of the restaurant, SilverBirch Hotels and Resorts, decided to "narrow the focus of their portfolio to hotel services exclusively."

The Fish House has rented space from the Park Board since 2006 and the lease expires at the end of October.

SilverBirch decided not to renew the lease, according to Leanne Novak, the sales and event manager at the restaurant.

"The Fish House in Stanley Park will cease service as a restaurant as of end of day on the 30th of September. Beyond that date, operation of the restaurant is currently undetermined," she said.

The restaurant has been a fixture in Stanley Park for decades and during peak season, employs as many as 60 people.

Novak said many staff members have worked at The Fish House for more than 15 years.

"The final day of operation will be a sad day for many," she said.
