Severe wind warning issued for Metro Vancouver, Vancouver Island
Warmer and windier second storm to hammer the South Coast for much of the day
Environment Canada has issued a weather warning for Tuesday forecasting potentially strong or damaging winds in Metro Vancouver and Vancouver Island.
The weather agency says winds of 70 to 90 km/h could hit the region, causing possible power outages and damage to parts of buildings such as roof shingles or windows.
Strong winds
The wind will begin to pick up between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m and south-facing areas and the Fraser Valley may see gusts over 70 km/h through the morning hours.
Between noon and 3 p.m. the winds will shift as a cold front slides through Vancouver. Winds gusting to 90 km/h will impact much of Metro Vancouver and the Sunshine Coast through the second half of the day.
Winds should begin to ease as the front continues to track eastward through the evening hours.
Rising temperatures and more rain
Along with the wind, all of the South Coast will get hit with a new round of heavy rain Tuesday.
Another 20 to 40 mm of rain is possible for Metro Vancouver with up to 70 mm expected for the North Shore and the Fraser Valley where rainfall warnings are in place.
The system is also ushering in warmer air and temperatures that have been rising through the overnight will continue to rise to the low teens by Tuesday afternoon.
Snow that fell in the mountains on Monday will be changing over to rain through the day.
Stormy month?
This is the fourth storm this month to hit Vancouver, bringing November rainfall totals to more than 130 millimetres as of Sunday.
November is Vancouver's wettest month of the year. After the rain ends Tuesday night, precipitation will likely exceed 180 millimetres — the average rainfall for the month.
