Private schools top Fraser Institute's 2016 B.C. elementary school rankings
Private schools make up 80 of the report's top 100 schools
Private schools remain top of the class according to the Fraser Institute's latest yearly report card ranking B.C. elementary schools.
The rankings compared 944 schools over the past five years using B.C.'s Foundation Skills Assessment, an annual province-wide gauge of students' academic skills from the B.C. Ministry of Education.
The report assigns schools a number grade out of 10.
"Our report card is the only objective, reliable tool that parents have to compare the academic performance of their child's school over time and to that of other schools in their community," said report co-author Peter Cowley.
Cowley says the average score across the province was six out of 10.
Six schools, five of them from Vancouver, tied for first.
Private schools scored an average grade of 8.2 and made up 80 of the top 100 spots in the rankings. Public schools scored an average of 5.6.
The report lists West Vancouver and Richmond as having the highest ranked public schools.
The B.C. Teachers' Federation has previously criticized the rankings as being too dependent on a single test.
Today, it also took to Twitter to criticize the report.
