Maple Ridge man gets 7 years in B.C. double homicide
Lawyer says Bruce Main has 'suffered' and is 'deeply remorseful.'
A Maple Ridge, B.C. man was sentenced to seven years in prison after pleading guilty to two counts of manslaughter in a double homicide nearly five years ago.
Bruce Main, 66, was originally charged with the first-degree murder of Lisa Dudley, 37, and Guthrie Jolan McKay, 33, in September 2008.
During the sentencing hearing on Friday in B.C. Supreme Court in New Westminster, Main's lawyer told the court his client was "a decent human being" who has "suffered" and is "deeply remorseful."
But the victims' families, who were in court clutching photos of McKay and Dudley, said they were disappointed with the sentence.
Found 4 days after 911 call
Dudley was found by a neighbour tied to a chair and bleeding from bullet wounds in her Mission, B.C. home four days after neighbours called 911 to report hearing shots fired.
She died on the way to hospital. McKay was found dead in the home.
Investigators have not released a motive or other details about their deaths, except that they were killed in targeted hits.
The RCMP officer who was first called to the scene never got out of his car, reporting he didn't see anything unusual. He was later found guilty of disgraceful conduct and docked one-day's pay.
Two other men have been charged in the deaths. Last year, 53 year-old Jack Woodruff pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree murder and was sentenced to life in prison without parole for 25 years. Another man, Justin MacKinnon, has also been charged with two counts of first-degree murder.
