B.C.'s police watchdog is investigating the death of a Langley teen Wednesday night.

According to the B.C. Coroners Service, the teen was found at the Walnut Grove Skate Park Wednesday evening and died in hospital later that night.

The Independent Investigations Office says it is looking into the incident "as police were in proximity" when the incident occurred. The B.C. Coroners Service is also investigating.

"The Coroners Service's investigation will look to determine how, where, when and by what means he came to his death. I have no other details at this time," said Andy Watson with the coroners service in an email.

The IIO is a civilian-led police oversight agency responsible for investigating officer-involved incidents involving death or serious harm.
