A section of Highway 1 north of B.C.'s Fraser Canyon remains closed Thursday, more than 12 hours after a mudslide hit the road.
The slide shut down the Trans Canada Highway late Wednesday in both directions between Lytton — located about 150 kilometres northeast of Vancouver — and Spences Bridge, between the junctions with Highway 8 and Highway 12.
There is no detour available and an assessment is still in progress, DriveBC said. The next update is not expected until 4 p.m. PT.
Witnesses said it was pouring rain before the mudslide.

DriveBC initially reported flooding in the area of Ashcroft, Spences Bridge and Lytton around 8:30 p.m. The highway was closed around 9:30 p.m. PT.
Environment Canada radar showed moderate to heavy rain moving over the slide area between 7:10 p.m. and 7:50 p.m.
