Rare bottle of Glenfiddich scotch to be sold in Vancouver

Those with a nose for fine whisky are being offered a unique opportunity this weekend.

It's one of 50 in the world and the only one of its kind to be sold in Canada this year

Thirsty and have $36,000 to spare? Too late! This rare bottle of 50-year-old Glenfiddich sold Saturday in Vancouver. (Glenfiddich)

Those with a nose for fine whisky are being offered a unique opportunity this weekend — a $36,000 bottle of "ultra rare" scotch is going up for sale at a Vancouver liquor store.

"On the palette what it tastes like, is you get this sweetness that comes through like orange marmalade with a faint wisp of smoke, with a lovely velvety finish," explains Glenfiddich scotch ambassador Mitch Bechard.

The bottle in question is a 50-year-old Glenfiddich single malt scotch — one of only 50 bottles available worldwide this year, and the only one to be sold in Canada.

Bechard says wealthy scotch lovers have been known to camp out overnight to be the first in line at the liquor store.

The sale is part of the B.C. Liquor Stores annual premium spirit release. Joining it on the shelves will be whiskies, cognacs and bourbons from around the world.

The Glenfiddich will be up for sale at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday morning at the Cambie Liquor Store. The rest of the premium stock will be available at 30 stores across the province.
