Man suffers serious wounds, bystanders injured after shooting in Coquitlam on Friday
Shooting occurred outside John B pub on Austin Ave. just before 9:30 p.m. on Jan. 14
Mounties in Coquitlam, B.C., say a man is in hospital with serious injuries following a Friday night shooting in the city.
Two bystanders also suffered minor injuries after being hit by debris.
The RCMP say in a release that the shooting happened just before 9:30 p.m. in the 1000 block of Austin Ave., near the John B pub and liquor store, which police described as "a public location."
They say the person who was wounded is known to police and there are indications he was targeted. On Saturday officers said the man had undergone surgery and was expected to make a full recovery.
No information has been released about the suspect and officers say it is still unclear whether the incident is connected to the Lower Mainland gang conflict.
Bystanders injured
On Saturday police say in the release that "two innocent bystanders were taken to hospital for minor injuries which are believed to have been caused from the debris from the shooting."
A week ago another bystander was also injured in a separate targeted shooting in Langley, which claimed the life of an 18-year-old man who had a history with police.
Investigators are asking anyone with information about the case to contact the Coquitlam RCMP at at 604-945-1550 and quote file 2022-1125.
