Const. Edgardo Diaz charged with assault causing bodily harm
Diaz and former partner charged following 2011 altercation at Rupert Street Skytrain station
A Metro Vancouver transit police officer and his former partner have been charged with assault causing bodily harm and assault with a weapon in relation to an altercation at the Rupert Street SkyTrain station in August 2011.
Transit Police spokesperson Const. Ann Drennan says the charges are related to a fight between a man and Const. Edgardo Diaz and then Const. Michael Hughes.
She says the Transit Police asked the Office of the Police Complaints Commissioner to investigate following the altercation.
The OPCC turned the investigation over to New Westminster Police. Charges have now been approved, three and a half years after the original incident.
Drennan says Diaz continues to work for the Transit Police in an administrative capacity. Hughes left the service in 2012.
Diaz is scheduled to make his first appearance in court Feb 15.
