Anna Balde&nbsp;wasn't planning to rescue a shark when she went&nbsp;to walk&nbsp;her puppy along Cherry Hill Beach in Nova Scotia recently.

Balde said she was returning to her car&nbsp;when she heard a woman call out. Balde then saw the shark flopping around in the shallows.&nbsp;

Grabbing the shark by the tail end — rather than the end with the&nbsp;teeth&nbsp;—&nbsp;she managed to haul the shark into deeper water.

A group of surfers used their boards to guide the shark farther out, Balde told CBC Radio's&nbsp;

"It was dangerous and I'm happy it worked out. I'm happy I didn't get bit," she said. "I hope it doesn't happen again. I would probably do the same."

Arbitrator awards pay raise to Acadia University faculty union members

William Kaplan’s award, dated July 29, followed a hearing on July 21 in Halifax. The two sides agreed to binding arbitration following acrimonious contract talks that included a month-long faculty strike earlier this year.

5-year detour finally ends as new bridge opens over Mira River, Cape Breton

After five years without a bridge, Cape Breton residents gathered to celebrate the official opening of a new 80-metre truss bridge over the Mira River.

Shelburne long-term care home to be transferred to private company

The province has decided to turn over a long-term care home in Shelburne to the private company MacLeod Group.

Roseway Manor is slated for replacement. The facility opened in 1976.
