57 new COVID-19 cases in London area Monday, 21 variants of concern

What's the latest for the London area?
The Middlesex-London Health Unit (MLHU) posted 57 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday and no deaths.
While the bulk of the new cases were in London, there were also three in Strathroy-Caradoc, two in Middlesex Centre and one in Thames Centre.
The latest results come after 124 additional cases were reported in the region over the weekend. The number of screened variants of concern continues to climb, with an additional 21 flagged on Monday. There have now been six variants confirmed to have originated in the UK and 132 other variants.
The number of known cases of COVID-19 in the community is now up to 434, a 136 per cent jump in the last week.
There were two new cases reported at area schools, including one case at Mountsfield Public School and another at Northdale Central Public School, according to the MLHU.
An outbreak has been declared at Woodland Heights Public School where there are currently two active COVID-19 cases. A previous outbreak at Wilberforce Public School has been declared over.
There are three ongoing outbreaks at student residence buildings at Western University, including Essex Hall, Ontario Hall and Saugeen-Maitland Hall.
London Health Sciences Centre is reporting 16 patients who have tested positive for coronavirus, including five or fewer in intensive care. There are also five or fewer staff who have tested positive. An outbreak on the fourth floor medical unit of University Hospital has been resolved.
COVID-19 across the region and beyond
Southwestern Public Health, which oversees Elgin-Oxford, posted 56 new COVID-19 cases Monday and one death. The region has 92 known active cases, including 26 cases in Woodstock and 24 in St. Thomas. There have been 65 variants of concern reported in the region.
There were seven new cases reported by Huron Perth Public Health, including three in Stratford and four in Perth County. A previously reported case was reassigned to another health unit. There are now 16 active cases in the region, including six in Stratford, six in Perth County and four in Huron County.
Across Ontario, there were 2,094 new COVID-19 cases and 10 additional deaths.
Five public health units reported triple-digit case counts, including Toronto with 618. According to Critical Care Services Ontario, there are 409 people across the province in intensive care with COVID-19, including 247 who are on a ventilator.
